NEW CLASSICS CUP CHAMP LIKELY IN OCTOBER AT REMINGTON PARK

For Immediate Release –  Oklahoma City, OK – September 11, 2024  – Trainer Jayde Gelner has noted that one of the stakes winners in his barn will more than likely not see action this season at Remington Park.

Ghost Hero, a three-time stakes winner at Remington Park, captured the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile Stakes and the Don C. McNeill Stakes as a 2-year-old in 2022. He then followed up with a win in the Oklahoma Classics Cup last year at age 3. He was laid off after that race until June 7 this year when he resurfaced at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, and was victorious again in allowance-optional claiming company.

A minor injury has sidelined him for this meet, even though he was a winner in that Lone Star race. Gelner said, “I’ve talked with the owner and we decided that it was in the best interest of the horse to give him some time off.”

Ghost Hero’s record is 14-7-1-1 with total earnings of  $348,182. He is a 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred colt by Shaman Ghost, out of the Super Saver mare Queen Buxley, is owned by Norman Stables of Thomasville, Ala. and was bred by Clark Brewster of Tulsa.

This season’s renewal of the Oklahoma Classics will take place on Friday, Oct. 18. The $175,000 Classics Cup is the richest race in the divisional series of stakes events that has been held every fall at Remington Park since 1993.

ThoroEnduro Begins September 13

Remington Park’s free online handicapping contest, ThoroEnduro, returns on Friday, Sept. 13 and will continue through the end of the season in December.

Fans can play by going to remingtonpark.com and clicking on the ThoroEnduro button at the top of the page. Cash prizes will be available for those accumulating the best totals in virtual win-place-show amounts for the game. Again this year, the grand prize is a seat to the 2025 National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas.

Contestants vying for the trip to the prestigious tournament in March must be NHC Tour members. A discounted membership rate is available on the ThoroEnduro game site.

Night 10 of the 2024 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season begins tonight at 6:30pm-Central with nine races, two of them over the turf. The main track is fast, the turf is firm.
