SPRINGBOARD PROBABLE MISTER OMAHA WORKS AT REMINGTON PARK

Oklahoma City, OK, November  25, 2024  – After Friday and Saturday night programs on Nov. 22 and 23 had temperatures in the high 50s to low 60s for the start of racing, Monday afternoon at Remington Park won’t get close to that.

Temperatures for today’s card, that begins at 2:30pm, will be in the high 40s, possibly cracking 50-degrees for a moment or two.

Mister Omaha Works Half-Mile

The $300,000 Springboard Mile is fast approaching on Dec. 13. Mister Omaha, a top-Oklahoma-bred 2-year-old, worked a half-mile this morning as his preparation for the richest race remaining this season continues.

The colt by Omaha Beach, from the Into Mischief mare Cosmic Code, was handled by his regular jockey Luis Quinonez for the four furlongs, he covered in :49.81 handily over the fast track.

“It was a nice easy work,” noted trainer Joe Offolter. “Luis just kind of sat still on him, he let him gallop out well. He came back fine and it was what we wanted.”

Owned and bred by Bryan Hawk of Shawnee, Okla., Mister Omaha has already won a pair of stakes races this season. He bested fellow Oklahoma-breds in both the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile (Oct. 18) and the Don McNeill Stakes (Nov. 8). The McNeill is contested at the one-mile distance of the Springboard.

The Springboard Mile, a qualifying points race for the 2025 Kentucky Derby, is the main event on Dec. 13, the final night of the Remington Park season.

Triana Approaching 500

Jockey Alfredo Triana Jr., who enjoyed a riding triple last Monday, Nov. 18 at Remington Park, now sits nine away from his 500th career Thoroughbred victory.

Triana has five mounts today. He rides Shesgotspirit (6-1 morning-line odds) in the first race, Birdie Be Gone (6-1) in race three, Kollyns Julie (6-1) in race, Smarty Ball (8-1) in race five and Smart Okie (15-1) in the ninth and final.

Triana has 24 wins this Remington Park season, good for ninth in the jockey standings. Stewart Elliott leads the seasonal race in a runaway with 75 victories.

Leandro Goncalves is only two wins away from the 2,300th trip to the winner’s circle in his North American career. He currently sits in 10th place in the jockey standings here with 21 victories.
