For Immediate Release – Oklahoma City, Ok, September 2, 2023 – Tiz Magic won her fifth career race over turf on Saturday night at Remington Park, with a drop in class being the key for this mare under the guidance of jockey Iram Diego.
Diego took the 5-year-old daughter of Dialed In, out of the High Brite mare Tiz a Brite Miss, squarely to the front in the five-furlong grass sprint and just when it seemed the closers would swallow her at the top of the stretch, she kicked it into another gear and won easily, pulling away.
Trainer Karen Jacks had run her in two stakes races in a row at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, prior to shipping her to Remington Park for this fall meet. Tiz Magic was the runner-up twice in those spots, the $100,000 Chamberlain Bridge Stakes and the $150,000 Chicken Fried Steak Stakes, losing by only a half-length and 1-1/4 lengths. Saturday’s race was an open allowance for fillies and mares.
It was the fifth win in 14 tries over the grass for Tiz Magic who made it to the winner’s circle for the first time at Remington Park. She had run second, beaten by a nose on Remington’s green, finishing second on Oct. 29, 2021 in allowance company, but had to go to Texas to get back to her winning ways. She won two in a row greensward, one at Sam Houston Race Park and one at Lone Star in early 2022. She then won two more consecutively in Houston in the spring of 2023.
Tiz Magic had run second in two-of-three starts at Remington Park prior to Saturday’s victory. She was sent off as the heavy favorite at 3-5 odds and paid $3.40, $2.20 and $2.10 across the board to win, place and show. The mare earned $23,898 from the purse of $40,000 for owner Carl R. Moore Management of Kennedale, Texas. Tiz Magic improved her career record to 26 starts, eight wins, six seconds and four thirds for a bankroll of $272,846. She was bred in Kentucky by Jeff, Teresa and Marilyn Little.
Tiz Magic drew away in the final strides to win by 3-1/2 lengths over runner-up Repasado (2-1), who was another two lengths ahead of Amalfi Sky (8-1) in third. Running time for the winner was :57.42, taking over after three-eighths of a mile. The early fractions were :21.85 for the first quarter-mile and :45.54 for the half.
