HOW ABOUT ME WITH LATE RUSH FOR FEATURED TURF WIN AT REMINGTON PARK

For Immediate Release –  Oklahoma City, Ok, September 6, 2023 – How Bout Me made a valiant rush in her last race only to come up short on the grass at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana. That same rocket-like launch from mid-pack was far more favorable at Remington Park on Wednesday night as she flew past the front-runners to win the featured allowance race on the turf.

Jockey Floyd Wethey, Jr., made a spectacular move at the top of the stretch with How Bout Me, pulling her from the middle of the turf course to the rail. She went past her competitors like they were standing still, hitting the line in front by 3-1/2 lengths as the 9-5 wagering favorite.

Wethey had the 3-year-old daughter of Commissioner, out of the Quality Road mare Highest Quality, relaxed down the backstretch of the five-furlong sprint greensward and when he asked her for her best, she exploded like a freight train as she passed the seven horses in front of her. She chased fractions, set by British Edge, of :21.79 for the first quarter-mile and :45.28 for the half-mile before she hit the wire in :57.56 for the win over the firm course.

Trainer Jayde Gelner, 23, has had an extremely good racing year with his stable and added to that shining resume with this win by How Bout Me. It was the filly’s second victory at the distance in five tries and her first win in four races over the turf despite finishing second and third in two other starts.

How Bout Me earned $21,345 from the $36,000 purse for owner Turnley Farms Louisiana (James Turnley, Jr.) of Baton Rouge, La. She was bred in Kentucky by her owner. Her record improved to 12 starts, three wins, one second, and two thirds for earnings of $87,363.

Rumpus (9-1) checked in a distant second, 1-1/4 lengths ahead of third-place finisher Heatin Up (7-1). How Bout Me paid $5.80 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.40 to show.
