For Immediate Release – September 11, 2022 — OKLAHOMA CITY – – Only a length and a half separated the top four finishers in the featured allowance race on the turf Saturday night at Remington Park. It took a photo to separate the top two finishers, noses apart, with Colors of the Wind the winner by a bog of the head.
Colors of the Wind hit the wire a nose in front of Irish Biz, who was another half-length ahead of third-place finisher, Little Miss Belle, in this cavalry charge to the wire. Running fourth was heavy 4-5 favorite Rosie Jane, who faded to a length back of Little Miss Belle.
The race was a first-level allowance for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds-and-older, going 1-1/16th miles on the firm grass course. Colors of the Wind, under the guidance of jockey Jose Alvarez, broke from the post position nine and sat mid-pack in sixth down the backstretch. By the top of the stretch, Alvarez had moved the Bret Calhoun trainee into fourth position and from there it was a hard-fought battle to the finish line with her other three competitors.
Colors of the Wind, a 3-year-old daughter of Constitution (Tapit), from the Forestry mare Wellington Beauty, got the second win of her career in seven tries, both of them coming on the turf. She broke her maiden on the grass, going one mile at Sam Houston Race Park on April 8. In her most recent race before Saturday night, Colors of the Wind had finished a little more than a length behind on the turf to Rosie Jane at Remington Park in a 7-1/2 furlong race greensward. Stretching out to 1-1/16th miles turned the trick for her to gain her revenge. The winning time for Colors of the Wind was 1:45.15 and she cut into interior fractions of :23.81 for the first quarter-mile, :48.77 for the half-mile, 1:14.27 for three-quarters of a mile and 1:39.17 after a mile.
Colors of the Wind earned $20,196 from the $34,000 purse for owners Martin Racing Stable, Bob Gorsky and Circustown Racing Stable of Dallas, Texas. Colors of the Wind improved to eight starts lifetime with two wins and a third for $51,700 in earnings. She was bred in Kentucky by Al Graziani.
REMINGTON PARK MAKES TOP NATIONAL STATISTICS CATEGORY ON FRIDAY NIGHT
Remington Park made the national racing highlights on Friday night with the largest margin of victory in the country for a winning horse, according to Equibase statistics – 13-3/4 lengths. Kaleo smoked the field in the $50,000 Oklahoma Stallion Stakes’ Colts & Geldings division for trainer Kari Craddock in the seven-furlongs race. It was the third consecutive year for Craddock to win this stakes event.
Kaleo, a 3-year-old gelded son of Foreign Policy, out of the Election Day (IRE) mare Buena Fortuna (MEX), was unrushed as four horses went to the front ahead of him on the backstretch. He dropped five lengths behind, running fifth at the half-mile pole before blowing by the front runners like a greased freight train.
Live racing at Remington Park continues next week with racing Wednesday-Saturday, Sept. 14-17. The first post time nightly is 7:07pm-Central.
