FLORAS ORA MAKES FIRST START OF YEAR A STAKES WINNER IN HANIDCAP FOR FILLIES AT REMINGTON PARK

Oklahoma City, OK, August 29, 2025  – The first stakes race of the Remington Park season went to a filly making her first start of the season, and the year. Floras Ora came off a nine-month layoff to outlast her stablemates for the win the $30,000 Oklahoma Stallion Handicap for Fillies, 3-years-old.

The restricted race, for progeny of registered Oklahoma Stallions, was at seven furlongs. Owned by Michael Grossman of Fredericksburg, Texas and trained by Francisco Bravo, Floras Ora made her first attempt since winning in a state-bred allowance race at Remington Park on Nov. 23, 2024. The distance was new for Floras Ora as she had never been longer than six furlongs. She handled the stretch-out with no issue, moving away from any possible traffic under Rene Diaz in the lone turn.

“She ran a huge race,” Diaz noted. “I decided to angle out around the three-eighths pole and give it a run and I had enough horse for the end.”

Bravo saddle the top three finishers in the race as Floras Ora rallied to take the lead from pace-setter Vita’s Song by the top of the stretch, then held off a rally from Caleb’s Finest to win by one length in 1:25.42 over the fast track. Vita’s Song held on for third, 2-1/2 lengths back, after setting early fractions of :23.45 for the opening quarter-mile and :47.18 for a half-mile. The winner had the six-furlong fraction in 1:12.22.

Floras Ora was 7-1 in the wagering and paid $17.20 to win, $7.20 to place and $3.20 to show. Caleb’s Finest, the beaten wagering favorite at 6-5 odds, paid $3.40 to place and $2.40 to show. Vita’s Song paid $3.80 to show.

A daughter of Atreides from the Flatter mare Flora’s Quick, Floras Ora was bred in Oklahoma by Eureka Thoroughbred Farm. The victory is her third from five lifetime attempts. She earned $18,000 for her initial stakes score to move her career bankroll to $65,741.

The remaining order of finish had Secret Verse fourth and Eireann fifth.

Floras Ora gave Bravo his second win in the Oklahoma Stallion Handicap for fillies. He also won in 2019 with Lady Orchid. This was the first win in the series for Grossman and Diaz.
