LADY AVE RETURNS TO REMINGTON, RETURNS TO HER WINNING WAYS ON TRACK SHE LOVES

For Immediate Release –  Oklahoma City, Ok – October 7, 2022 — If Remington Park was open year around, trainer Steve Asmussen might leave Lady Ave here forever.

The 5-year-old mare improved her record at the track she loves the most to six wins in eight races lifetime by capturing a six-furlong sprint win Friday night against optional $10,000 claimers by 1-1/4 lengths. This daughter of Bind (Pulpit), out of the Thunder Gulch mare Astoria Song, continued her winning streak at Remington Park to six in a row, all against optional claiming company or a starter class. If there were a category for that level, she surely would have been voted a champion in that genre in 2021. She won all five of her starts at Remington Park in 2021 by daylight.

Jockey Stewart Elliott has been aboard for Asmussen and owner Caden Arthur of Yukon, Okla., for every Lady Ave win at Remington Park. She was returning to Oklahoma City after a less than impressive showing at Colonial Downs in New Kent, Va. She was beaten 16-3/4 lengths, sprinting there in starter-optional claiming $8,000 company last time out on Sept. 5. Prior to that, she had run fourth in a $6,250 starter-optional claiming race, beaten four lengths, also at Colonial. When she stepped back onto the Remington Park track Friday, it was like the light bulb came back on for her.

Elliott took Lady Ave almost immediately to the front in her win Friday and she cruised to the win. She fought with Missiszippy Bling the first half-mile before putting her away and then was not challenged the rest of the way. Lady Ave paid $4.80 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.80 to show as her most loyal fans at Remington forgave her the poor showings in Virginia, making her the 7-5 betting favorite. She covered the six furlongs in 1:11.75 and set early fractions of :23.19 for the first quarter-mile, :46.72 for the half-mile and :58.80 for five-eighths of a mile.

What a nice claim Lady Ave has been for the Asmussen barn. He picked her up for $5,000 from trainer Danny Pish’s barn at Sam Houston Race Park on March 25, 2021, and she has won 12 races since. Lady Ave earned $8,808 for the victory Friday and now has a lifetime running line of 31 starts, 14 wins and 6 seconds for $233,319 earned. At Remington Park, her record now is eight starts, six wins for $52,763 in her Oklahoma City bankroll. She was bred in Texas by David Davis, her former owner.

Lady Ave’s streak here began on Aug. 27, 2021, when she won by two lengths at six furlongs, followed by a 1-1/4 length victory at 5-1/2 furlongs on Sept. 18. There were three more Remington Park trips to the winner’s circle last year as she also won on Oct. 7, Nov. 5 and Dec. 16. Oddly enough, she wasn’t much to write home about in her first two races at Remington Park. On Aug. 30, 2019 as a 2-year-old she ran sixth in a maiden race, losing by 13-1/2 lengths on a track listed as “good,” going 5-1/2 furlongs and then couldn’t break her maiden in her second try either, running sixth again, this time losing by 7-3/4 lengths on Nov. 16 of that year. She didn’t race at Remington Park again until she started her streak on Aug. 27, 2021.

About TRAO

Edward J. DeBartolo (at that time, the owner of Balmoral, Thistledown and Louisiana Downs) built Remington Park in Oklahoma City as a $100 million showcase for Thoroughbred racing. The inaugural race meet during the fall of 1988 was an opportunity for Oklahoma Thoroughbred horsemen to race in their home state and for horsemen from throughout the region to enjoy Oklahoma’s hospitality.
