BROTHER REID FINDS OPEN ROOM FOR FEATURE SCORE AT REMINGTON PARK

Oklahoma City, OK, August 14, 2025  – Brother Reid received a patient and smart ride from jockey Iram Diego to triumph in Thursday’s starter allowance turf feature at Remington Park.

A field of 10 went to the gate for the 7-1/2 furlong event for 3-year-olds and older. Scat Free flew to front from his rail position and led the group for the first five furlongs, into the second turn. At that point, Team Leader engaged Scat Free in a fight that continued inside the furlong pole.

Good Swimmer, under leading rider Stewart Elliott, moved toward the leaders in the stretch. Diego had moved Brother Reid off the rail to wide open spaces at the top of the lane and his momentum was too much for the others. Good Swimmer took the lead at the sixteenth-pole but that advantage was short-lived as Brother Reid moved by to score victory by a half-length, according to the Equibase official chart.

Owned by Chris Aulds of Lubbock, Texas and trained by Ray Ashford, Jr., Brother Reid went off at 11-1 odds and paid $24.20 to win, $6.60 to place and $2.80 to show. Good Swimmer held second while Coastal Brink rallied late along the rail for third, 2-1/2 lengths behind the winner. Mackinnon was the beaten 2-1 wagering favorite, finishing fifth.

An 8-year-old gelding by Empire Maker from the Ghostzapper mare La Cloche, Brother Reid was bred in Kentucky by Don Alberto Corporation. This win is his seventh from 29 career starts. The winner’s share of the $27,000 purse, $15,945, ups his career earnings to $151,709.

Voice of the Sooners Calls Race
Toby Rowland, the voice of the University of Oklahoma Sooners since 2011, and also the sports director at KWTV-Channel 9 in Oklahoma City, called his first career horse race Thursday night. Rowland was the announcer as Trafalgar Shore won the seventh race of her career, defeating $10,000-level claiming foes in the fourth race.

Rowland checked calling a horse race off his play-by-play list, while producing a television package on the preparation in the final minutes up to the start of a race. The feature will air on the Sunday Night Sports Blitz on KWTV this Sunday, Aug. 17 at 10pm.

Remington Park racing continues Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15 & 16. The first race nightly is 6pm. All times are Central.
