For Immediate Release – Oklahoma City, Ok – September 26, 2022 — Campfire Creed is starting to show the kind of talent he inherited from his sire Jimmy Creed. He won like a good thing in his first stakes try Sunday, taking down a couple of strong shippers in the $75,000 Kip Deville Stakes at Remington Park on Sunday.
The nation’s top trainer Steve Asmussen sent in a colt that had raced in graded company at Saratoga in upstate New York this summer and Bret Calhoun brought in the undefeated Vietnam Victory but it was Campfire Creed that would garner the victory in this six-furlong sprint on the main track.
Trainer Danny Pish stepped him up from an impressive maiden win at Remington Park by 5-1/4 lengths on Aug. 20 and Campfire Creed didn’t blink an eye. He passed four of the six starters down the stretch to draw away at the wire for a 1-3/4 lengths victory. His sire (dad) Jimmy Creed was a Grade 1 winner, capturing the Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita Park in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in 2012 at 8-1 odds. Just like his daddy, Campfire Creed was an upset winner at decent post-time odds in the Kip Deville at 7-1. He paid $16.20, $6.60 and $4.20 to win, place and show to his backers.
Jockey Gerardo Mora booted him home for Pish and owner Dennis E. Foster of Cle Elm, Wash. Cle Elm translates into “swift water,” and it is the home of the owner of an extremely swift horse. Campfire Creed, out of the More than Ready mare Mahbadiha, covered the six furlongs in 1:11.17 over the fast track. Sitting in fifth position down the backstretch, the colt chased early fractions of 22.41 for the first quarter, 46.23 for the half and 58.48 for five-eighths. Wildatlanticstorm and U.S. Army hooked up on the lead in a speed duel to set it up for Campfire Creed. Wildatlanticstorm held on for second, but U.S. Army faded to last.
Campfire Creed earned $45,000 from the purse for Foster and the young colt improved his record to three starts, two wins and one second for $75,178 in earnings. He was purchased in the Texas Summer Sale for $60,000 last year as a yearling. He was bred in Kentucky by Highclere, Inc.
The rest of the finish of the Kip Deville behind Campfire Creed was Wildatlanticstorm (the 9-5 wagering favorite) in second, 1-3/4 lengths ahead of third place finisher Toddchero (8-1), followed by Vietnam Victory (7-2), Roman Giant (9-5) and U.S. Army (8-1).
It was the first win in the stakes for Foster and Mora, but Pish had won this race before in 2020 with Huntsinger.
