Oklahoma City, OK, December 6, 2024 – Jockey Rene Diaz is enjoying his first season at Remington Park, securing a top-10 finish in the rider standings with just four racing dates remaining. Friday night, Diaz posted his first riding triple of the meet.
The Diaz hat trick started in the second race of the night with Great Excaper ($4 to win) for owner Michael Grossman of Fredericksburg, Texas and trainer Franciso Bravo.
The second Diaz score came via disqualification in race five. Gold Front, ridden by Diaz, finished second, beaten a head by Golden Grit. However, Diaz claimed foul against Golden Grit, alleging interference from bumping in the final 50-yards of the six-furlong event. After review, the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission stewards held up the Diaz objection, elevating Gold Front ($9) to victory while placing Golden Grit second.
Gold Front is owned and trained by Terry Eoff of Granbury, Texas.
There was no more drama for the Diaz triple as he racked up the third score in race eight on Frozentap ($5.80) for owner Richard L. Davis of Irving, Texas and trainer J.R. Caldwell.
Diaz now has 33 wins for the season, good for eighth in the standings, well behind Stewart Elliott who is in first place with 82 wins.
