For Immediate Release – Oklahoma City, Ok – September 26, 2022 — Jackpot Baby makes her fans want to say her mother’s name when she comes roaring down the stretch as she did in winning the $52,500 E.L. Gaylord Stakes at Remington Park on Sunday.
Her dam’s name was Va Va Va Boombaby and her early career looks like a mirror image of Jackpot Baby’s. Owner-breeder-trainer C.R. Trout has the mare and he has watched both fillies show so much talent in the start of their racing days. Va Va Va Boombaby won the first two starts of her career, winning easily. Jackpot Baby won her second consecutive race to start her career on Sunday. Both fillies were more than impressive in their Remington Park races.
Jackpot Baby, under jockey Jose Alvarez, broke her maiden in Oklahoma City on Sept. 9 in her debut and did it with ease, winning by 4-3/4 lengths. Trout stepped her right up to stakes company on Sunday, and she cruised home a winner by a full length. Her mama, Va Va Va Boombaby broke her maiden by 8-1/4 lengths and then won an allowance race by four lengths the next time out.
It was the third win in the E.L. Gaylord Stakes for Trout and the victories are spread out. He won eight years ago in 2014 with Seriously Silver and before that in 2009 with Shotgun Gulch, who evolved into a Grade 1 winner. This was the first win in the Gaylord for Alvarez.
Jackpot Baby earned $32,500 for Trout and the Oklahoma home-bred now has $55,707 after only two races. She is a 2-year-old daughter of Goldencents (Into Mischief), out of the Violence mare Va Va Va Boombaby.
Running time for the winner in this 6-1/2 furlong dirt sprint was 1:18.20 on a fast track. The filly was sitting next-to-last in the first half of the race and exploded past the early leaders as they came to the wire. U Glow Girl, the 6-5 betting favorite and Mor Lively at 7-2, produced a quick early pace, setting it up for Jackpot Baby to run them down. U Glow Girl could finish no better than fifth of the juvenile filles as the chalk. Mor Lively held on for second, a neck ahead of third-place finisher Jokes On Blue (7-2).
Jackpot Baby cut into early fractions of :23.05 for the first quarter-mile, :46.87 for the half-mile and 1:11.71 for three-quarters of a mile.
Jackpot Baby (5-2 odds) paid $7 to win, $4.20 to place and $2.80 to show. The remaining order of finish was Appropriated Funds (4th), Dashyns Dream (6th) and Izatiz (7th).
The E.L. Gaylord Memorial is named in honor of the late chairman and publisher of The Oklahoman, the state’s largest newspaper. E.L. Gaylord was a staunch supporter of Remington Park in the track’s early history.
