Oklahoma City, OK, July 24, 2025 – Trainers Steve Asmussen and Jayde Gelner sent a couple of stakes winners to the track Wednesday morning in preparation for the upcoming Remington Park Thoroughbred Season that begins Friday, Aug. 8.
Asmussen, the 18-time training title winner at Remington Park and all-time conditioner in the history of the game, had Glee on the track, while Gelner worked Ghost Hero. Both worked handily at the half-mile distance on the work tab. Wednesday morning training took place over a fast track, under sunny skies with temperatures ranging from the high-70s to low-80s.
Glee is a 3-year-old Texas-bred filly by Honor A.P., out of the Bluegrass Cat mare Red Tabby and is a multiple stakes winner. Glee was a two-time winner of black-type races last year at Remington Park, taking the E.L. Gaylord Memorial Stakes by 15-1/2 lengths on Sept. 29 and the Toby Keith Stakes by 10-3/4 lengths on Dec. 13. She has not won since leaving Remington Park, but ran second in the Bara Lass Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on Jan. 25 and in the Fiesta Mile Stakes at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, on July 5, her latest effort.
Glee worked her half-mile in :48.50 handily. Glee was purchased by Mike Rutherford of Houston, Texas, for $60,000 from the Fasig-Tipton Fall Yearling Sale in October 2023. Glee’s lifetime record is 11 starts, three wins and three seconds for $175,584 in earnings.
Ghost Hero, a 5-year-old Oklahoma-bred horse by Shaman Ghost, out of the Super Saver mare Queen Buxley, worked his half in :49.10, handily. This multiple stakes-winner, owned by Norman Stables (Robert Norman) of Thomasville, Ala., is a bit of an enigma. He has won his last three races in a row, one in 2023, one in 2024 and one in 2025. Ghost Hero won the Oklahoma Classics Cup at Remington Park on Oct. 20, 2023. He didn’t race again until June 7, 2024, but came off the long layoff with a win in allowance-optional claiming company at Lone Star Park. He was almost off another full year when he came back again in a handicap race at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., on May 5, 2025. In his career, Ghost Hero has won 8-of-15 starts for a bankroll of $378,020. He was bought for $77,000 from the Fasig-Tipton Fall Yearling Sale in October 2021. The horse’s last race at Remington Park two years ago was an impressive one. In that Oklahoma Classics Cup race, Ghost Hero beat multiple stakes winner Number One Dude by 7-1/4 lengths.
Norman Stables also campaigns Coal Battle, the 2024 Springboard Mile winner at Remington Park, who went on to score the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas this spring before competing in the Kentucky Derby.
The bullet work for the half-mile Wednesday at Remington Park was Ship of Dreams in :47.60, a 5-year-old mares owned by Forest Hills Farm of Guthrie, Okla. and trained by Bret Calhoun.
The 2025 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season will begin Friday, Aug. 8.
