HALL OF FAME TRAINER STEVE ASMUSSEN’S SON SHIPS IN AND RIDES TWO WINNERS AT REMINGTON PARK

Oklahoma City, OK, October 28, 2024  – Keith Asmussen arrived in Oklahoma City to ride two horses Thursday night at Remington Park, in preparation for Friday night’s Clever Trevor Stakes. All he did was win with both of his mounts.

Both trips to the winner’s circle came aboard horses trained by his father, Steve Asmussen, who is the sport’s all-time winningest conditioner and 18-time training title holder at Remington Park. Keith won in the saddle of Multiple Opinions in race four and then aboard Folding Money in race five. They were his first and second mounts of the meet.

Multiple Opinions, a 2-year-old gelding owned by Ackerley Brothers Farm of Houston, winning by a head as the 2-1 second favorite in the maiden claiming sprint.

Keith got the Kentucky-bred gelding to the wire first in the six-furlong race just ahead of a fast-closing Kangaroo Coast. He was never more than 1-1/2 lengths off the pace of pacesetter King Adolis and took over at the top of the stretch to win in 1:12.95 on the fast track.

Multiple Opinions is a gelded son of Instagrand, out of the Palace Malice mare Hong Kong Helen. He was bred by Glory Days Breeding. The win came in the gelding’s fourth career race.

Keith’s second victory of the night was in the very next race when he got home with Folding Money, a third-time starter for his dad and owner Calumet Farm of Lexington, Ky., by a half-length in another maiden claiming race, this one at the one-mile distance.

Folding Money is a 3-year-old gelded New York-bred by Laoban, out of the Deputy Minister mare Elrose. He scores in his third race and did it as the 6-5 betting favorite. He had to pass two horses in the stretch to get to the wire first and showed a lot of tenacity to do just that, going by Jacha (3-1) and Ice Again (13-1) to get the win.

Keith will ride Three Echoes, third-place finisher in the Kip Deville Stakes, in the Clever Trevor. His mount is second in the morning-line odds at 7-2. Owned by L and N Racing of Tulsa, Okla., and trained by his dad.

Three Echoes broke his maiden at first-asking at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. in late May under Keith Asmussen, the only rider to get him to the winner’s circle so far. The colt by Echo Town has made four consecutive stakes attempts since winning, all with third-place finishes, including the Grade 3, $175,000 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga in upstate New York in July.

Three Echoes is the top earner in the Clever Trevor Stakes with $133,550 amassed from his five career starts.

Keith’s brother Erik won his first riding title this summer at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, with 48 wins. Strangely enough, both riding brothers were injured on the same day this spring. Erik escaped major injury in his accident at Lone Star, but brother Keith broke his femur on that fateful day, June 1, when he fell from his mount, Singsational, in a race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Singsational clipped heels with a horse in front of him, ejecting Keith. Singsational walked off that day under her own power.

Keith posted on social media that he broke his left femur, three ribs and had lung contusions and pressure on his lungs. His injuries required surgery and he did not ride again in an official race until Sept. 21 at Churchill Downs. His good fortune continued Thursday at Remington Park.
