Oklahoma City, OK, October 19, 2024 – Many of the top Oklahoma-bred sprinters were represented Friday night at Remington Park as the $99,600 Oklahoma Classics Sprint was contested. Lake Bee rallied wide off the lone turn and had the momentum to gain victory.
Breakable Code, the wagering favorite at 4-5 odds, had the lead through the turn but could not hold off the charge of Lake Bee who moved five-wide into the stretch under jockey Jose Alvarez. Lake Bee took the lead with a furlong to go and crossed the finish one length in front of Breakable Code in 1:10.25 over a fast track.
Our Cornerstone (31-1) rallied as well, gaining third, 3-1/2 lengths behind the victor. The remaining order of finish was Legacy Account (31-1) fourth, Fly to the Bank (4-1) fifth, Salt Creek Kid (31-1) sixth, Euromantic (34-1) seventh and Dark Afternoon (6-1).
Fly to the Bank was attempting to win the Classics Sprint for a third consecutive year.
Euromantic set the opening quarter-mile fraction of : 22.11, before Breakable Code his the half-mile in :45.03. Lake Bee made the five-eighths of a mile split in :57.42.
Lake Bee picked up his sixth career win from 18 attempts to go along with four places and three shows. A 3-year-old gelding by Bee Jersey from the Salt Lake broodmare Lake Piru, Lake Bee was bred in Oklahoma by his trainer Miguel Silva, who won his first Classics race as a conditioner. Owned by his Silva Racing of Shakopee, Minn., Lake Bee earned $59,760 to run his lifetime bankroll to $219,727.
This was the first victory in the Classics Sprint for all of the connections. For Alvarez, it was his third overall Classics score.
