Jockey Belen Quinonez goes eight years between wins at Remington Park
When jockey Belen Quinonez won the fifth race Saturday, Aug. 24 at Remington Park, it was the first victory for him in the past eight years at this track. His last trip to the winner’s circle in Oklahoma City came on Dec. 11, 2016, when he was the upset winner of the $100,000 She’s All In Handicap with 57-1 longshot Miss Mo Kelly for trainer Paul Holthus.

Belen Quinonez, is the younger brother of Remington Park’s all-time second-winningest jockey Luis Quinonez.

On Saturday night, Belen checked in first aboard Order of Merit, an 8-1 longshot, at 5-1/2 furlongs on the main track by 3-1/4 lengths for trainer Mark Buehrer and owner Orin A. Chain Revocable Living Trust. It was also Belen’s 300thwin at Remington Park. It was a long time coming, but he finally bagged that one for the milestone.

Belen took a respite from riding from 2017 to this year. Belen was ninth in the standings the last year he raced at Remington Park in 2016 with 25 wins.
