For Immediate Release – Oklahoma City, OK, September 26, 2023 – My Destiny is one of the top horses trainer Herman Wilensky has conditioned in his 20-plus years on the job and she showed why on Sunday, winning the $50,000 Flashy Lady Handicap with ease.
The 59-year-old trainer, who has been based in South Florida during his career, and this 5-year-old mare by Majesticperfection, out of the Crafty Prospector mare Northern Destiny, was a stakes winner for him at Delta Downs in Louisiana on Jan. 6 in the $75,000 Orleans Stakes. That victory gave her four wins in a row. Her Flashy Lady Stakes win gave her two wins in her last three tries. She won a starter allowance $16,000 race at Laurel in Maryland two races back on July 4 before running fourth, beaten only two lengths at Del Mar on the West Coast. This mare has more miles on the road than a rock band on a world tour.
My Destiny won $30,000 for owner Sam Wilensky of Davie, Fla., and improved her record to 26 starts, 11 wins, two seconds and three thirds for $297,893 in earnings. It was the first trip to the winner’s circle for all connections in this race. Gonzalez was in the saddle for her last stakes win in the Orleans.
The winner covered the six furlongs in 1:09.77 over the fast track. It was the first three-quarters of a mile race of the meet under the 1:10 mark. Gonzalez let the speed go in front of him the first quarter-mile, sitting three lengths back in sixth. By the time they reached the half-mile pole, My Destiny cruised to the lead by a head. Down the lane she stretched it out to 2-1/2 lengths and then she drew away like the others were standing still to win by 5-1/4 lengths.
The mare was sent off at 2-1 odds as the second favorite and paid $6.40 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.60 to show. She was bred in Kentucky by Donamire Farm.
Adaline Julia, the 8-5 post-time favorite, checked in second, a half-length ahead of third-place finisher Blame Day (5-1). My Friend Amy (17-1) ran fourth, followed by Tiffany Twist (18-1) in fifth, Muted (6-1) sixth, Asena (12-1) seventh, Speedometer (16-1) eighth and Rollin Chrome (43-1) ninth.
