For Immediate Release – Oklahoma City, Ok, July 31, 2023 – The Remington Park main track has been open for light training for a week. This morning, official timed workouts were permitted with the first registered by a beautiful dappled gray named March West.
A 7-year-old horse by Flashback from the Rockport Harbor mare Rockport Honey, March West is owned by Steve Dupy and Randy Chelf of Enid, Okla. The gray is trained by Mark Buehrer who was aboard this morning for a three-furlong breeze in :39.38 over a fast track.
“Under wraps really easy,” said Buehrer, describing the short breeze at 6:05am while the temperatures were in the low 70s. “He handled the track perfect. He feels better under you here than he has all year. He likes Remington.”
March West won two sprints at 5-1/2 (April 25) and six furlongs (May 9) at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. this spring. After those races, March West was sold in a package deal of horses to Dupy and Chelf, Buehrer’s main owners. They believe the horse has more good efforts forthcoming, probably over the Remington Park turf course.
“We will try him there,” Buehrer said. “We’ll probably try him both sprinting and routing.”
March West has started 13 times in his career with three wins, one second and two third-place runs. He has career earnings of $40,063. This year, he has the two victories at Will Rogers Downs from four attempts.
March West was bred in Kentucky by Gary and Mary West Stables, Inc.
Nearly 1,100 horses are now stabled at Remington Park in preparation for the beginning of the 67-date Thoroughbred Season that starts Aug. 18.
The 2023 Thoroughbred Season at Remington Park begins Friday, Aug. 18 and continues through Friday, Dec. 15.
